This isn't really exactly what it sounds like. Our first REAL wedding gifts came from my friend in New York, BUT this is not about that gift (because technically we haven't received it yet... it's at my parents' house), it's about the first gifts that were marked as "purchased" on our registries.
If you read my last post about finishing our registry you'll remember that we registered at Macy's and Bed, Bath and Beyond as well as on MyRegistry.com for some Home Depot stuff. WELLLLLLLL, J and I got anxious. We picked our bedding and we weren't really sure how long it had been out. It seems like Macy's cycles through their bedding sets fairly regularly, so we were worried that it would get discontinued and then we'd have to start ALL OVER!
So, one day I went online and it was on SUPER sale. It's a 24-piece set that is regularly priced at $400 (yes... I know... ridiculous), but if you shop at Macy's you know that things go on sale every other week. WELL, we had some extra Christmas money from grandparents and our bedding went on sale... so we bought it. Who better to buy our first wedding gift than US!!!
Here's what it looks like...
It also comes with curtains, which is awesome because that's what I'm the worst at coordinating...
We bought it without actually seeing it in person, but my mom called when it arrived and opened it and said it was really pretty, and then we actually saw it on a bed at Macy's.
So that was present #1... present #2 is also technically not a wedding gift. My mom called me on Valentine's Day and told me that for our Valentine's gift, she and my dad were going to buy us our first place setting. She said that Valentine's Day also happened to be a good excuse to buy a set so she could show people what it looks like... no complaints here!
She mixed and matched, which she was worried about because it meant that someone else would have to do the same thing, but I'm SURE it will not be a problem. We are sending all gifts to my parents' house, so again, I haven't actually SEEN our first place setting in person, but she bought us some combination of these two dishes (all round dishes)...
It's pretty exciting to see thing marked as "fulfilled" on your registry... obviously weddings are not about getting gifts, but we spent A LOT of hours on the registry and it kind of makes the wedding feel like it's getting closer (because it is) and makes it seem so much more real than it ever has before!
So Fun!!!
ReplyDeletei LOVE the bed set and the plates! i'm sure that was all so exciting :)
ReplyDeleteI apparently didn't understand the first part of the post because I laughed so hard when you said that you guys got it for yourselves...but that's only because I can imagine the conversation about it...and your excitement at getting them for a steal :) Either way I still think it counts as the first present...
