Card Box

So, I kind of went around and around about what I wanted to do for our card box.  I was originally looking at something really cute and totally homemade like this...

But when it really came down to it, I didn't trust myself to make it what I really wanted it to be.  I have a problem when it comes to expectations of myself.  My brain can come up with really great ideas, but when I create my own vision of something, if it doesn't work out just how I saw it in my brain, I'll be disappointed.

So, I decided that I'd go with something that was still cute and creative, but that was also simple enough that I wasn't going to drive myself crazy with it.  My mom used to semi-collect bird houses.  Well, maybe not collect... but she had a bunch of them in the kitchen of one of the houses we lived in.  Anyway, she had this pretty wire birdcage with her collection that I always liked and she said that I could have it and paint it whatever color I wanted.  SOOOOOOO...

Please pay no attention to the purple carpet... it's in my dad's office, where we normally close the door.

This is step one in the process.  It's hard to tell here, but the top of the cage (the two triangles and the space between) actually lifts up.  There's also a little hook that I figured out not only keeps it closed, but that I can use to keep it open just a couple of inches.

I also plan to get a piece of poster board that I can cut to fit in the bottom, so the cards don't fall out when one of my awesome bridesmaids makes sure it gets into my mom's car at the end of the night.

I haven't decided what else I'm going to do with it to decorate it and make it cute, but I was also thinking some ribbon around the two sides and the back so cards don't slip out there either.

So step one is done and I feel like the rest of it should be pretty easy to get done the week of the wedding... maybe an hour of time to allocate to this and it should be done.
