In honor of Mother's Day, I am dedicating this post to my mom.
It took my mom and dad 10 years to have me after they got married, but not for lack of trying. My mom had lots of miscarriages both before and after I was born. They wanted a child so badly and were almost at the point of adoption when my mom got pregnant with me. They have always treated me like I'm special, but took care to be sure that I was pushed around by my older cousins, just so I didn't get too full of myself.
My mom has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She is thoughtful and has always been there to help me with whatever I've needed. She always knows just what to tell me when I need advice and she knows when to just let me vent and get whatever is on my mind off my chest.
She is so creative and everything she makes always turns out perfect. This is going to sound silly, but when she makes a snack, the apples and cheese and crackers they always look nice on the plate or in the bowl that she puts them in. And of course, when she makes a salad or a sandwich, it always tastes so much better than what I could make :-D
My mom with her high school friends at a wedding
I was so lucky to have a stay-at-home mom when I was growing up. I didn't appreciate it then as much as I do now, but she worked hard to make sure that everything I needed for school and sports were always ready for me. I never had to worry about my uniforms being washed... they were always done. I didn't have to worry about how I would get home from school or practice because she was always there, AND always willing to let another kid jump in our car for a ride home. I was always lucky to have a supporter at my basketball and volleyball games and I can't remember a time that she ever missed one because I was lucky enough to have a mom who made me her priority 99% of the time.
My grandma, mom and Aunt Peggy at tea
I'm not quite to the point that my mom is more a friend than a mom, but I think that's because I'm not a mom myself, yet. I think that as I get married and start my own family, our relationship may change... but for the better. Since I left for college, my mom has been willing to make my own choices, my own mistakes and stand by me as I celebrate my successes. I know that will never change. I think our relationship will change because as my life changes with the wedding and the eventual addition of kids, I'll better understand my mom and have an even higher appreciation for what she has done and continues to do for me, for my dad, for our family and herself.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mother's of the Bride out there!!!
i loved this sentence: "They have always treated me like I'm special, but took care to be sure that I was pushed around by my older cousins, just so I didn't get too full of myself." I'm glad that your mom didn't give up too early so she could have you!
