Friday
We started the day early at the hair salon. I have a girl who is doing my hair for $20 and she did a FANTASTIC job!!! I came with my hair already curly so all she had to do was style it, but she did a great job and she said that she would be available to do ALL the girls' hair for $20 on the day of the wedding. SCORE!
From there, we went home and put a bouquet together and got me in my dress. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!! It's perfect and it fits perfect and I love it. We went and took pictures at a bunch of different places and then headed to the banquet hall to look at it again and make some decorating decisions. It mostly just confused me more, so my mom and I decided to go back on Saturday when it was being set up for a wedding.
After that was lunch and then a trip back to the huge field across the street from the banquet hall because it was FULL of purple flowers and had a beautiful orange tree in it. I was really tired of being a fake bride by that time, so I didn't even take my jeans off for these pictures, which was probably best because the field was also full of stickers.
Saturday
Another full day of running here and there and everywhere!!!
We started at the banquet hall again, and this time it was much easier to envision what it would look like on the day of a wedding. I got to see both of the rooms, which had different looks to them, and I got to talk to the hall's decorators, who we won't be using, but who were a GREAT reference!!! They were so helpful and gave us some ideas and tips and they were both awesome! More on the ideas to come later!
We took my dress back to the place where I bought it and looked at some tux options. More to come on tuxes, but seriously... they are outrageous and I know I haven't even looked at a tux since high school, but I had absolutely NO idea how much they cost to rent.
From there, we went to the mall. It was my mom's Birthday and it was a special occasion so I told her that for her Birthday I was going to buy her a new outfit. I must say that my mom is THE worst shopper ever. She hates everything that she tries on because she only looks at the parts that she doesn't like and never gives anything the chance to look good in her eyes. Now I know where I get it.... :-D
We finally found an outfit that looked great on her and rushed home and got ready fast for our Birthday dinner. We went to our old stand by for dinner. A local Italian restaurant that is always good! Apparently, on your Birthday there, they give you a WHOLE CAKE! Well... the top of a cake, but still, it's big enough for 6 or 8 people to eat (and we didn't eat any of it).
SOOOOO, I'm super sneaky and I told my mom that we had to go to this other restaurant in town because we were looking at it for a rehearsal dinner and they were going to have to a big party set up. In reality, we lured here there because 50 of her friends and family members were there, ready to surprise her on her Birthday! It was great and she was totally surprised and the night seemed like it went so fast! I didn't even get to eat any cake, but I heard really great things about it and now, lemon cake is on our wedding cake list. I'm so happy that there were so many people who came to the part and I'm so happy that my mom was surprised. She really loved it!!!
Sunday
We had the family over for brunch so I spent the morning cutting fruit and making scrambled eggs and getting things ready. Everyone came over and ate and talked and it was another great family morning. I look forward to these every time I'm home and it is a reminder that I have an amazing family! Everyone asked about J and asked about the wedding and I had the chance to talk to some of my cousins than I felt like I have talked to them in the past few years... it was great!
Once everyone was gone, we cleaned up and then we headed to the mall. I went ahead and gave my parents their mother and father of the groom gifts (I forgot to take pics, but I'll get some at Christmas) because I needed to get my dad's watch fitted properly and I couldn't give one without giving the other. So we went to the mall and also stopped by Men's Warehouse to look at more tuxes. Their prices were similar and their colors where horrible! I know they really benefit from matching their colors to the David's Bridal dress colors, but really... can you not branch out at all from there? Not everyone shops at David's Bridal and they did not have a lime green that was ANYWHERE close to the one that we want for the groomsmen! So we left there and went to the mall.
We got the watch fixed and stopped into the local, family owned tux shop that's housed in the mall and talked to them again. They have suits that we can rent for around $110, which still sounds so expensive to me, but it's significantly less than anything else we've found. Again... more to come on this in a later post.
Monday
I forgot to mention that the day before I left on my trip, I started to feel like I was getting sick. J was sick the week before and I really wish I would have gotten sick either earlier, or after I got home from my trip, but it wasn't too bad... I stayed very medicated and slept really good at night. BUT everything kind of caught up with me on Monday and I started feeling worse. So, we started the day with tea and blankets and some TV. There were lots of things that we were "supposed" to do that day, but we'll get to them later.
We did go downtown and check out a rental company to see about renting some lights from there to add some color to the walls in the big white box that is our reception hall. Their showroom is AMAZING, and I could definitely work in a place like that! They were very nice and helpful and I'm definitely going to be renting from them. I also saw another restaurant option for the rehearsal that my mom said we'll have to go try when J and I are in town for Christmas. They have a great patio that sits above the river and I bet it's awesome in the summer!
So overall, it was a great trip and I always love seeing my family and spending time with my mom and dad. In the next few days, I'll talk more about the tuxes and the decorations and I JUST MIGHT put up one of my bridal pics when I get them... BUT the dress won't be in it... sorry... J reads my blog sometimes too :-D
